Getting to My Goal

My goal is to create a body and life that projects vitality, ageless beauty and good health. To be more attractive, happier and more alive than ever, regardless of my age. That getting older can mean being healthier and more open to life’s possibilities than ever. My age is a number. Nothing more. 2007 feels like a new beginning.

I grew up in Southern California. Huntington Beach to be exact – the land of surfing, beautiful people, “perfect” bodies and chocolate-covered frozen bananas, topped with nuts and crushed toffee if you want. I never felt pretty enough or perfect enough or bikini-ready enough. My youth was one big self-judging comparison to everyone else. I went on my first “diet” at eight or nine years old. And was “successful” (my paisley pants went from tight to comfy in three weeks) – temporarily. I’ve gone up and down four sizes ever since. Obviously going on and off miracle plans doesn’t work for me. I guess I’m a slow learner. Permanent lifestyle change has been on my mind for a while. Especially since my fat pants got really tight over the past few weeks. Sleeping better, having more endurance and strength, and looking in proportion from head to toe (not to mention needing only one size in my closet – lots more room!) are really big motivators. Health is a factor too since heart disease, diabetes and cancer are in my gene pool.

Hey Marna! More power to you sister!!! Yes, this is inspiring…and I need to get back on track!! I myself went overboard with eating way too many tamales and cookies over the winterbreak and I used the holidays as an excuse. Over the last three years I’ve lost over 40 lbs…I’ve been trying to maintain the weight, although I do go thru the regular ups and downs…but who doesn’t struggle? Because it is a lifestyle I know I have to maintain if I wanna be healthy and happy for the rest of my life…heart disease and diabetes are in my gene pool. I won’t have any of that if I can prevent it! Yogurt is definitely a big part of my healthy way of eating…my “bikini” this year is to continue to be healthy and strong! Yes, I’ve accomplished a big goal by losing 40 in the past…but the bigger goal is to keep it off! And why not try to tackle those last 15 pounds starting NOW? Last year I promised myself that I was going to make this new decade (my 30s) a fabulous one by never going back to where I used to be, when I wasn’t happy, and I wasn’t healthy. BE A STRONG, HAPPY WOMAN for yourself…it is the best gift you can give to yourself! :)

Connie, this one’s for you! I really appreciate your words of encouragement and your taking the time to share them with me. You are one of the few who are maintaining your weight. That’s fantastic. And I agree with you about giving ourselves the gift of fitness and nutritious eating. You are an inspiration!
