It is really difficult to eat out!!!

You have really got to watch those hidden calories when eating out.  I love sandwiches especially from those places with really good, freshly baked bread.  Normally, when you choose a deli sandwich you think you are sacrificing or “being good” by not going to a typical “fast food joint”.  Well, think again.  Some of those sandwches can be 8 or 900 calories.  That will definitely break the calorie bank.  I couldn’t believe it.  If I am going to eat that I might as well eat a big juicy burger and know I am eating all those calories and not “sacrifice”.

After a really intense workout with my girlfriends, we went out to eat.  We decided on Japanese food.   Prior to going, I spoke with Janis.  Janis indicated that the sushi was a safe bet and generally low in calories.  Lucky for me.  I love sushi !! It was fun to get together after a tough workout to talk and eat good, hopefully, low fat food.

I believe the workouts are getting better.  The afterburn is gone.  They are still tough.  No pain, no gain (or in this case, no lose:).

P.S.  I went to the doctor today-physical time.  I was so excited (I was going to sneak and accidently look at the scale:).  I didn’t.  I stood on the scale backwards and told the lady not to tell me. (as I am still in phase I of the best Life Diet).

    Veronica…and the group,

You girls are gorgeous…and I remember always wanting to be better fit…keep on..but don’t forget to enjoy the bodies you have. I was one of you years ago and now that I am in my mid 60’s I regret not enjoying the body I had when I was younger…Looking back, I was beautiful….and I never knew it or gave myself credit for it….

I am trying to lose about 20 pounds of gained weight that has crept up in the last 5 years..I do not like all the new foods out there…sushi, too scary, yogurt..hate the texture…I am struggling to sty away from bread, potatoes, and rice….

I have been encouraged by veronica to keep on my own journey with my diet and exercise, I have been on my tread mill everday since the 1st of january, I have to be at work at 7am, so I wake up 30mins earlier every morning to exercise, I am doing well eating the right foods, my down fall is sweets and all types of junk foods, but I made a promise to myself and I don’t want to break that promise besides if you can’t keep a promise to yourself, who else is more important than yourself.I find it more exciting to be in this battle with someone that works with me and has pretty much the same goal and admits that it is hard to stay away from that scale and those tempting foods that will not allow you to achieve this goal, so you veronica I say keep on trucking and remember your goal and most of all your promise to yourself.

Damalpha, in response to your comments about enjoying our bodies now–I can only speak for myself, but I do appreciate my body and all the amazing things it can do. I feel attractive just the way I am. However, I didn’t have the energy, strength to feel as good as I could. I wasn’t making the healthiest food choices enough of the time and my portions were completely out of control. Also, clothes didn’t fit well and I was just plain uncomfortable. Imagine carrying a 30 lb. weight around all day. It has to have an effect on well-being, etc., right? This whole program is about getting the most out of who we are or where we’re at. Not about wanting to be someone or somewhere else.

Also, our nutitional adviser says rice, bread, etc. is good in proper amounts, just make it whole grain, not refined. In fact we need it for energy and it rounds out a solid “diet”.

Good luck finding foods you enjoy that support your weight management efforts and good health.

Veronica, I’m sorry I missed the dinner. Sounds fun. Next time.

Hey Veronica, I’m finally putting in my entry. I just want to start out by saying how proud I am of you and your group. I wish each and every one of you all the best. I will make this short and sweet, mainly because I’m supposed to be working, lol! I will leave you with this inspirational vitamin: “You are everything that is, your thoughts, your life, your dreams come true. You are everything you choose to be. You are as unlimited as the endless universe.” Love ya!

    Karolyn,

I agree. This is probably one of the hardest things you and I will ever do. I have a hard time resisting dessert too. (Hense, my latest post-check it out).

Just try to budget your dessert. So instead of dessert everyday, try to limit it to one or two times per week. Also, try the yoplait “dessert style” yogurts. I like the chocolate mousses and the apple turnover. I know it sounds silly, but I put a graham cracker or shortbread cookie with it (I pretend it is the crust) and it is great.

Try it and let me know how you do. Keep you head up. You can do it.
